Cerrati
Serralunga d'Alba
This first background image is certainly not the best suited to understanding where Cerrati is situated within the commune of Serralunga d’Alba and would be even less useful in assessing the extent of the cru and its morphology.
On the other hand, the image – thanks also to the light – illustrates better than any other the privileged position it enjoys, particularly in the highest part, highlighted as Cucco in Renato Ratti’s map and now officially delimited as Vigna Cucco within the MGA Cerrati. A position facing full south, which on the one hand is more open and warm than Brea, but on the other is not as warm as some vineyards on the other side of Serralunga d’Alba (for example, Marenca or Vignarionda). And now that Tenuta Cucco’s wines have a less showy style than in the past, I think this particularity emerges even more clearly.
Turning now to the frontal views, it can be seen that Vigna Cucco is only a small part of the MGA Cerrati, which also includes the area historically known as Posteirone on a slope that enjoys fine southeast exposure but has never been the source of a Barolo exclusively from its vines.
Menzioni Vigna: Cucco.
